Covid-19 Poem

I'm feeling fed up, but mum says that’s ok.

She said if she’s honest, she’s feeling the same way!

Try to stay positive and think of the good things,

like being safe, together and making new begginings.

I’ve played with my little brother more and we’ve all baked cakes,

I’ve been on the xbox and played online with my mates.

But it's not quite the same and never thought id miss school,

having a laugh with my friends and eating lunch in the hall.

It won't last forever, that’s what people keeping saying,

I hope not, its scary so here I am praying.

Covid 19 please go away, let our world come back to normal

and keep your nasty virus obey!

Kemsley Class it would be great if you can send me pictures and updates of how you are doing. They don't have to just be updates linked to the work I have set, but to do with the fun things you have been up to with your families and siblings whilst at home.

I have had a few updates from some children but would love more!

If you complete a contact form, I can send you my email for you to send these to.

If you need your Edublog login, if you weren't at school on our last day, contact me and I can send it to you.

Good evening everyone,

I hope you've all been enjoying this glorious sunshine.

There is a zoom call tomorrow afternoon (Friday 26th June) at 2pm for any of Kemsley Class that would like to join. If you can't make it, please do not worry; I will see you next week. If you need the link, please email Miss Essenhigh who will forward it to you.

I am hoping to have the classroom sorted before our call so I can show you what I will look like when you return next week.

Take care everyone.

Miss Essenhigh

21.6.20

I hope you are all enjoying Father's Day as I write this in preparation for the coming week.

For the majority of you, this will be the last week of home learning as you will be returning to school week commencing 29.6.20. This will be the last week that I will be uploading work for you.

I hope you enjoy your last week of home learning and the tasks that are in the folder.

Instead of a geography tasks, linked to North America, you have an art skills tasks this week; we have completed our North America topic - well done!!!

I look forward to seeing you very soon.

Take care and keep smiling

Hi everyone,

I hope you've  had a good week. I haven't liked the storms and endless rain very much!!! I have seen though that we are headed for some great weather next week.

I know we are getting into the routine of having a weekly Friday afternoon zoom call; unfortunately, due to family circumstances, I won't be able to be do one this week with you.

I hope to see you next Friday for a zoom meeting before we return to school the following week.

Take care everyone,

Miss Essenhigh

14.6.20

Good afternoon everyone,

All your work for the coming week is uploaded into this week's folder. As always, read through the power point in the English and Maths folders so you know what's there as they are full this week. Not with lots more than usual for you to do, but because there are different options depending on how you have found recent topics.

It is exciting to know that learning will go back to some sense of normality very soon, when you are able to come back to school. I can't wait to be able to teach you again!!!

Have a good week everyone and send me through anything you would like to share or for me to give feedback on. I have been sent a range of writing this week - thank you to those of you who let me read your work.

I really enjoyed our zoom call on Friday. It really does end my week well.

Take care everyone and keep smiling,

Miss Essenhigh

11.6.20

Good afternoon Kemsley Class,

I hope you are all having a good week!

If anyone hasn't received the zoom link for tomorrow at 2pm, please let me know and I can send it to you so you are able to join.

I gave you the freedom this week to write from a genre of your choice; I am not expecting that you would have completed the writing by today, but if you have, and wanted to send it my way to look at and or share, please do. I will be happy to read.

The writing I have been sent over the last few writing tasks, I've been impressed with. It has been clear to see how hard you have worked on your writing, which really is fantastic.

See you tomorrow,

Miss Essenhigh

7.6.20

Hi everyone,

I have just added a document into the English folder called, Alan Peat sentence types. This document can be used when completing your writing as it has a range of sentence types so you can vary this in your writing.

Children, you will recognise this as we have used some in class, when writing before.

I hope this helps.

Miss Essenhigh

7.6.20

Good afternoon Kemsley Class,

It is that time of the week again where I upload your work for your week of home schooling.

It was so lovely to see you on the zoom call on Friday!! Being able to see your faces and hear your voices really did end my week very nicely. We said that we would like to do a zoom call weekly; we will do one again on Friday afternoon at 2pm.

If you couldn't make the zoom call on Friday 5th June, but would like to join the one this week (Friday 12th June), please send Miss Essenhigh an email for the details or I know it is shared in the parent's Whatsapp group too. Remember this week, wear something crazy. This could be a crazy hairstyle, a  a prop, hat or costume. Please don't go out and buy anything for the call - I know you will be able to find something at home. I already have mine sorted!! You'll have to wait and see what it is.

As with previous weeks, your work is in the three folders for you. Complete as many of the tasks as you are able to and let me know if you need any help at all.

With the topic work, I'm sure you're now in the swing of how the tasks work, but just a reminder that you DO NOT need to complete all of them as they are the same task but are different levels of challenge.

You are all very lucky to have great teachers at home - your parents! From the emails I get from you, your parents and from speaking to you on the zoom call, I can really see how hard your parents are working with you, as well as trying to do their own work, walk dogs, cook, wash, clean, do the shopping and have some sort of relaxing time themselves.

I will look forward to our zoom call on Friday.

I miss you all lots and really can't wait to see you again.

Miss Essenhigh

Hello Kemsley Class,

I hope you are all well and have started your home learning this week with some enthusiasm, after your break last week.

There will be a zoom call on Friday 5th June at 2pm with Miss Essenhigh for the children in Kemsley Class. It would be lovely if as many of you would be able to join.

If you would like the link, please email Miss Essenhigh and she will send it to you. I believe it will be also passed on via parent Whatsapp groups of children in the class.

I look forward to seeing you all for a catch up and to share what we've been up to.

Miss Essenhigh

Hello Kemsley Class and welcome back to term 6.

Can you believe it is the last term of this school year?!

I hope you were able to enjoy the half term break with your families and in the coming days and weeks get to meet up with, at a social distance, some friends and relatives you haven't seen for a long while.

This term, we are continuing with our topic of North America and the year 5 children are continuing with their science topic, Earth and Space.

In the folders for the week beginning 1st June you will find everything you need for your learning.

As always complete as much as you are able to.

I will be at school teaching the year 6 children each morning from tomorrow - Monday 1st June - so will be unable to answer any emails until the afternoon when they have gone home. I will get back to you as soon as I am able to to make sure your questions get answered.

This week there will be a class zoom meeting for Kemsley Class so we can all catch up and have a chat about how we have been. I will let you know when this will be and will send out the details so you can be part of the meeting.

Take care everyone and enjoy your week.

Miss Essenhigh

Good morning everyone,

I have added the answer sheets to accompany the maths, which I know you were able to access prior to us having to have a subscription to White Rose Maths.

Have a good day everyone.

Miss Essenhigh

17/5/20

Happy Sunday evening everyone!

I hope you have all enjoyed today. I went for a lovely walk at Capstone Country Park and saw lots of people enjoying the fresh air and their picnics.

It is the last week of term! Woohoo! I am sure you are saying.

I have added your work for this week into the folders named, Week beginning 18th May. I hope you enjoy completing some of the tasks.

Next week, I won't be adding any work for you. It is time for you to rest your minds and enjoy a break from school tasks.

There is a zoom call on Wednesday this week with Kemsley Class that one of the parents is oraganising that I am very much looking forward to. I have coloured my own hair so you will have to let me know how you think I've done. Don't be too honest :))))

Take care everyone and keep smiling.

Good morning everyone,

The year 4 science work is now in this week's topic folder. Today is much brighter than yesterday; still a little chilly but not cold enough to stop me from going on a nice long walk and enjoying the sunshine.

Take care everyone and email me if you need any help, want to share some of your learning or just to day hi.

Miss Lucy Essenhigh

The correct links are now in the folder. The file is named with all capital letters. YEAR 5 CORRECT VIDEO LINKS.

Sorry again everyone.

Miss Essenhigh

11/5/20

Year 5 I do apologise; I have put the wrong week of links to the maths videos in this week's folder. I am trying to upload the correct ones for you but am having an issue logging into White Rose Maths to do so as there are so many people using the site.

I will get this done as soon as possible.

Miss Essenhigh

10/5/20

Good afternoon Kemsley Class,

How the weather has changed today! From a bright, warm morning to an afternoon of grey skies, blustery wind and Miss Essenhigh writing this whilst wrapped up in a blanket in her living room. This afternoon and this evening I am uploading your work for next week, from the comfort of my sofa. I wish I could be working in the garden, but it just isn't warm enough today.

I have added some different style maths tasks this week - including two investigations in which you have to find a culprit. The White Rose Maths work is still there. It's all saved in the folder, instead of my providing a link; this is all explained in the maths power point.

In the English folder, there are a range of tasks again, for you to complete as you need them. I have written it on the power point in the English folder too, but I'm sure that you are still working on last week, or the previous week's booklet. There are lots of tasks focusing on commas in this week's folder. It is your chance to really get to grips with using commas accurately.

In each, the Maths, English and Topic folders there is a power point that explains what is in the folder and how to complete the tasks.

I hope you enjoy completing them.

On my walk this afternoon, I saw two children from Bredhurst School which was just lovely.

Take care everyone.

Miss Essenhigh

5/5/20

Hi everyone,

I have just added the year 4 science into the topic folder for this week. I do apologise that it didn't go in earlier; Mrs Carey sent it over to me at the weekend but I forgot to put it in.

I hope you enjoy it.

Take care and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

3/5/20

So, we are now in May! Can you believe that the last time I saw you all it was March? Time really does seem to fly, yet be going ever so slowly at the same time! If that is even possible?

I have added your work for next week (a 4 day week due to VE day on Friday) into the folders - Week beginning 4th May.

I have explained with the maths and English to continue from where you are at and not to feel all of the work needs to be completed - just do what you can.

Year 5, we have a new science topic - Earth and Space, so your introductory lesson for that is in the folder. I hope you enjoy the topic as it is something I have never taught before - so is new for me too. You may be able to teach me a thing or two!

In addition, in the topic folder for this week there are some tasks linked to VE Day, which is Friday 8th May. You may want to dedicate a session this week to completing some of those tasking and learning about what VE Day is.

I am at school tomorrow (Monday) working with the children of key workers so as always will be get back to you as quickly as possible - but do bare with me.

Do email me if you need any support or want to share anything with me. It doesn't have to be related to your learning, it can just be a hi.

Thank you for all the pictures I have been sent this week and for trying the oat bakes. I hope you enjoyed them.

Take care and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

29/4/20

Hello Kemsley Class,

What a change there has been to the weather! This morning the sky was blue and it was fairly warm, whereas this afternoon the sky is grey and it is very drizzly. Don't let the rain dampen your spirits though! Taking a walk or cycle in the rain can be just as enjoyable as on a warm day. You may decide that these days call for sitting on the sofa under a blanket enjoying a film instead.

When we have colder rainy days they do indeed make me appreciate the sunshine we have been very lucky to have.

It has been lovely to hear from some of you and how you have been.

Remember that feeling happy, excited, relaxed, sad, worried, anxious, calm, motivated or unmotivated, or a mixture of these emotions, is completely normal at this time. Even the adults feel all of these emotions at some point throughout the week, even if we don't show it.

I can't wait to see you all again and be able to hear everything you have been up to.

Take care and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

27/4/20

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know I will be at school tomorrow with the children of key workers so won't be able to respond to your emails immediately. Please do bare with me and I will get back to you during the course of the day.

The science work for year 4 children has been added to the topic folder for this week also.

Miss Essenhigh

27/4/20

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are having a good start to the week.

I just wanted to clarify that there is no expectation that you complete all of the tasks that have been saved into this week's English folder. I have added a new booklet for year 4 and year 5 as well as some other writing and comprehensions tasks (Trapped and The Magic Biscuit) along with a word search and some word jumbles. These are here in case the booklets aren't working for you or you wanted a change. Please don't panic and think that they all need to be completed. Do what works for you and what you will enjoy in there.

Have a good day.

Miss Essenhigh

26/4/20

Hello everyone,

What a glorious Sunday it has been! I have enjoyed a run and then time in the garden whilst uploading your work for this week.

I have added an English booklet for year 4 and 5 into the English folder, although many of you may not need this until nearer the end of the week, if not next. It is there just in case anyone does need it for tomorrow. I have also added some other tasks into the English folder that you may want to try - but don't have to if the booklet is working well and is enough for you.

For topic this week, you have an art task. Last week you were working on your geography skills; this week it is focused on art skills. I do hope you enjoy it.

Along with the art you have your second Hinduism lesson and a science lesson. The year 5 lesson is in there and I will add the year 4 one as soon as I get it from Mrs Carey.

I am going to add a recipe you might want to try too. I made some oaty style soft biscuit bakes this week and knew you might like to try them. They don't have any sugar, butter or flour so are much healthier than usual biscuits. If you have a try, please send me some pictures and let me know if you liked them.

Remember to email me whenever you would like to. This may be for help, to update me with what you have been up to or to show me what you have achieved.

Take care and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

23/4/20

Hello everyone, I hope you are well and enjoying spending time in the sunshine. As it's such a bright and beautiful day, I've decided to do a bbq this evening; I can't wait!!!

I just wanted to let you all know, from the feedback I have received about the English booklet, with all your tasks in this week, it seems lots of you are enjoying it. As there are lots of tasks, and the written task at the end, (which will take you a few days, due to the drafting and editing) please don't think it needs to be completed by the end of this week. I will roll the booklet onto next week too as there are lots of tasks in there; along with your spelling and reading to do too, this isn't achievable to get done in a week. So, please don't be rushing or panicking that you aren't nearly finished.

Do email me if there are any tasks in there you don't understand or need some help with - that is what I'm here for!

Take care and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

21/4/20

I hope you have all day a lovely day. We have been very fortunate with the weather again today. I am planning on having a bbq this week - most probably on Thursday as this is supposed to be the warmest day!

The year 4 science work is now in the topic folder.

Take care and keep smiling.

19/4/20

Good evening everyone,

I hope you have enjoyed your Sunday afternoon. It is very bright and sunny but is rather chilly - it's very deceiving out there!

I have just uploaded your work for next week; fingers crossed I have been more successful this week in making sure I have uploaded it.

There is an English booklet in the English folder (one for year 4 and one for year 5, that are clearly labelled with the relevant year groups) - I have explained this in the powerpoint in that folder.

In the maths folder, there is a powerpoint explaining the expectations for the week and the tasks.

In the topic folder, there is an Understanding Faith lesson. Our new topic is learning about Hinduism. There is also a topic lesson in there linked to our new topic of the regions of North America. Finally, there is a science task for year 5.

Year 4, as soon as I receive your task from Mrs Carey I will pop that in too.

Please continue to keep in touch and ask for any support or guidance, should you need it.

I am at school on Monday and Wednesday with the children of the key workers so won't be able to reply to emails as quickly as I will on the other days - do bare with me.

There is a challenge this week in the English folder linked to reading.

I am calling it 'Get Caught Reading'. Take a look and take part.

Take care everyone and keep smiling.

Miss Essenhigh

16/4/20

I do apologise that the work for today and tomorrow wasn't showing this morning. I have just checked and I hadn't set the work to publsih onto the website - only saved it into my admin area.

The work for today and tomorrow is in the Maths folder under Thursday 16th and Friday 17th. The research task is also on that power point. From next week, as it is a full week, I will save it as I did before: maths in the maths folder, English in the English folder and topic in the topic folder.

Apologies again if this has affected your routine and timetable for today.

Miss Essenhigh

15/4/20

Good afternoon Kemsley Class,

Where have the last two weeks gone? They really have flown by for me.

I hope you have been enjoying your time with your families and out in the sunshine as we have been so lucky with such beautiful weather.

I have put some maths activities and a research task into the folder for you to complete over the next two days. The research is linked to our new topic. Along with this you should be continuing to be practicising your spellings of the words from the word lists and working on your times tables.

On Sunday, I will add all of your work for next week.

Remember to email me to update me with what you have been up to.

Take care,

Miss Essenhigh

3/4/20

Good morning Kemsley Class,

We have reached the Easter break! Well done for all your hard work in the last few weeks; you should all be proud of yourselves and your parents, for helping and supporting you with all the learning and activities you've been doing.

I won't be setting you any work for the Easter break but you can still be reading, learning spellings, researching or completing any tasks you haven't finished - if you choose to. There will be some Easter activities and ideas on the school website that you might want to try - but don't have to.

I will be checking my email regularly over the break so you can keep in touch and send pictures if you would like to.

I hope you get to enjoy lots of time in the sunshine and devour the chocolatey treats the Easter Bunny brings.

Take care,

Miss Essenhigh

Good evening Kemsley Class,

I have added your work for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday into the folders, in the sub folder 'Week beginning 30th March'. You only have three days until the end of term! I'm sure you can't wait!

I have been sent lots of pictures and updates and can see many of you have added your work onto our class Edublog page. Well done to those of you who have, but if that doesn't work for you that is absolutely fine.

I hope you have been patient with your parents as I can see from how well you have been doing that they have been trying very hard and spending lots of time with you.

Make sure you say thank you to them for all they are doing; you are very lucky!

 Take care and keep smiling

 Miss Essenhigh

Monday 23rd March - Journal Entry 1

What a bizarre day! A school with more adults than children! That is certainly a new type of school day for me.

I started my morning off by doing the Joe Wicks workout, with the few children of Key Workers who were at school and the other teachers and tas, before planning out Kemsley's week of learning. It is all uploaded and ready for them to access; I do hope they send me pictures of what they are up to so I can enjoy their learning with them!

I left school at 3.45pm and came home to make dinner and have a nice relaxing bath. It was smoked salmon and poached eggs for dinner for me - my favourite! Well, my almost favourite: if I could have had asparagus, it would have been absolutely perfect! I must put asparagus on my shopping list for next week! Miss Essenhigh don't forget!

Isn't it funny how all of the things you normally take for granted you want back. I will be honest in saying that I would have actually enjoyed having some of Kemsley Class' books to mark this evening - sshhhh don't tell anyone or else Mrs Cox might find out and offer for me to do the marking for ALL the teachers when we return to school!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday 24th March - Journal Entry 2

Well done Miss Essenhigh, you still got up at your usual work time like you planned to. Achievement number 1 for the day.

Firstly, I went for a run at 6.45am and then did a Joe Wicks HIIT workout called, 'The Sweat Challenge'. It definitely did what it intended to do - make me sweat! I am intending to do this each day to keep some routine for myself and so I can keep myself fit and healthy. Achievement number 2 for the day. It was gloriously sunny and so bright and delightful when I went for my daily exercise this morning, albeit very chilly -  wasn't complaining though.

I do have a confession to make: I got straight back into pyjamas after my exercise and bath!!!!! Not tomorrow Miss Essenhigh, not tomorrow! Today was a one off; tomorrow I will be getting myself dressed. I will update you on how this goes.

I was delighted when I received a few emails from the children in Kemsley Class to let me know what they've been up to. Achievement number 3.

. I do hope they keep in contact and share what they are doing with me as their emails really do make me smile.

To do list for tomorrow:

  • Go for a walk
  • Finish writing school reports
  • Start to plan the next set of work for Kemsley Class
  • Tidy the front bedroom

Wednesday 25th March - Journal Entry 3

And I did it!!!! I got dressed today - well done Miss Essenhigh!

I managed to do 4 of the tasks I set out for myself yesterday; 4/7 isn't too good or too bad. At least I got through some of things - the rest can just roll over to tomorrow! Guess which one didn't get done today - you got it, cleaning the bathroom! Who likes cleaning a bathroom? Not me!!!

I have been really enjoying going for my daily exercise early in the morning, so again today, I went out for a long walk at 8am. It was so gloriously sunny that I had to wear my sunglasses but was rather chilly though!!! Never mind, it didn't ruin my exercise.

I saw lots of rainbows in children's windows whilst I was out and they really made me smile. It's nice to see that children are creating such colourful pictures for everybody out walking to enjoy.

I was pleased that I managed to keep focused and nearly finished all of Kemsley Class' reports today. Some left to get done tomorrow. Then to send to Mrs Cox.

One thing that didn't please me today was my washing machine showing an error message! I had to empty all the water out and it ended up soaking 4 towels and almost flooded the kitchen floor. Thankfully, once I had emptied the water and the filter, the error message disappeared and it was working again. I did have 4 extra towels to wash though!!!!!

Thursday 26th March - Journal Entry 4

The washing machine is still working! Phew!

Today, I spent the day at school with some of the children of Key Workers. We did maths and English tasks in the morning - Joe Wicks first of course - and then spent some time on Purple Mash and enjoying the sunshine. What a lovely day it was! I was also pleased that I was working with Mrs Green as I have missed her this week.

I decided to walk to and from work today and used that as my daily exercise. It was crisp and windy, but I did enjoy it!

Receiving pictures and updates from children in Kemsley Class has been really making me smile. I feel like I haven't seen them for ages!

I wonder what they've been doing? If they've had a chance to do anything from their envelope we created with fun ideas?

Who has made a fort? Who has learnt a new skill? Who has done any cooking? Ooooh, I wonder if anyone has learnt to sew and can sew my button back onto my dress when we get back to school?!!

Friday 27th March - Journal Entry 5

Today has been a fairly slow day but I'm not complaining!

I have found it funny how I have been waking up at my usual time, as if I had to go into work, without even setting an alarm. It is like my body knows where I would normally be and what I would be doing. I wonder if anyone else has found that?

I got all of the tasks done that I set myself and went and did a food shop. It took quite a while because of the social distancing measures in place in supermarkets so I made sure I didn't forget anything, (like I normally do) in the hope that I won't need to go shopping for 10 days - 2 weeks. Fingers crossed!

I have had some lovely emails, pictures and messages from Kemsley Class that sure are keeping me smiling.

Oh, and I remembered the asparagus! I used it this evening in my dinner. It was delicious! Hot smoked salmon, bulgar wheat, spinach, garlic, asparagus, red pepper and mushrooms. Very tasty if I do say so myself.

Let's hope the weekend brings more sunshine.

Monday 30th March - Journal Entry 6

So, I missed a journal entry for Saturday and Sunday; I've decided I will just journal on the week days. That could change though, but that works for me at the moment.

I was in two minds as to whether to go on a run this morning. I decided yes, and then no, and then was back to yes again. I finished my raspberry tea and then set off. I did 5 miles today and felt great when I got back. Boris Johnson, I made sure I didn't go over my exercise allowance for the day!

A pretty average day in lockdown today really: school work, checking emails and replying to my lovely class, keeping in contact with friends and family and enjoying some fresh air.

I have started to watch a new series to keep me occupied in the evenings. There are 6 series and between 12 and 18 episodes in each - that is near to 100 episodes! Will I have time to watch them during lockdown? We will see.

This evening, Mrs Cox sent me a video of two children in Kemsley Class, Reece and Sian, leading their own worship at home. It was just lovely to watch - I felt like I was there and part of the worship. Their focus was kindness.

Thank you Reece and Sian - you really made my day.

What will tomorrow have in store?
